【Important】Changes to Service Name and Website URL

The free BGM platform “DOVA-SYNDROME” will change its service name and website URL effective September 15, 2026.

This name change is intended to bring the culture and framework of free BGM, which we have developed together with composers, sound effect creators, and creators who use music, to an even greater number of creators around the world.

Please note that this change only concerns the service name and URL, and there will be no significant changes to how the site is used. All audio materials on this site will continue to be available for free, just as before.

Background to the Name Change

Since transitioning to corporate management in March 2026, we have been working to gradually expand our communications and improve our operations and systems, with the goal of introducing the free BGM culture that has uniquely developed in Japan to more people around the world. However, as we began actively communicating with audiences overseas, we identified two challenges with the name “DOVA-SYNDROME.”

1) There are trademark-related issues that make it difficult to continue using the name on a stable, long-term basis
2) It is difficult to convey that the service is a music service and platform

In particular, the trademark issue in 1) could become increasingly significant as the service becomes better known and the number of users grows. As the operator, we have a strong attachment to the current name, and we explored various ways to continue using a name that is also familiar to many of our users. However, we were unable to find a fundamental solution. As a result, we concluded that, before fully launching our international expansion, we should change to a name that clearly communicates that this is a music service and can be used stably well into the future.

The Meaning Behind the New Name

The new service name is “OpenTracks.”

The name OpenTracks carries two meanings.

The first is the idea of music that is open to all creators. The music available on this site can be used by anyone, regardless of whether they are a beginner or a professional, an individual or a company, or whether they have a budget for music. It is music that can be used in a wide range of creative contexts, including video distribution, games, and events, across regions and borders. Here, Open represents “being open,” while Tracks means “musical tracks.”

The second meaning represents the journey built through the free BGM culture that has uniquely developed in Japan, as well as the path that continues toward the world and the future. Japan’s free BGM culture is a creator-driven culture in which people who create music and people who use it come together, support one another’s creative work, and create new value. DOVA-SYNDROME has grown alongside this culture as one of Japan’s largest free BGM websites. While carrying forward the journey we have built together over the years, we aim to take the possibilities of free BGM to the world and into the next era. Here, Open represents “opening up possibilities to the world and the future,” while Tracks represents “the journey we have built so far and the path that lies ahead.”

The service logo will retain the same colors and design as the DOVA-SYNDROME logo, with only the lettering changed to the new name. This change also represents our commitment to carrying forward the journey we have built together so far.

Changes to the Website URL

Along with the name change, the website URL will also change.

<Old URL>
https://dova-s.jp
<New URL>
https://opentracks.com

After the change, accessing the old URL will automatically redirect users to the new URL. URLs for individual tracks and composer profile pages will also be redirected, so URLs to track pages and other pages that you have previously bookmarked or included in video descriptions, websites, and other locations will continue to be usable.

Example)
https://dova-s.jp/bgm/detail/1
will redirect to
https://opentracks.com/bgm/detail/1

Please note that the new URL is already accessible as of today. On September 15, 2026, it will officially become the service URL, and from that date onward, all access to the old URL will automatically redirect to the new URL.

Impact on Existing Users

Along with the changes to the service name and domain, we will also revise the Terms of Service, license, and Privacy Policy. However, there will be no changes other than those related to the service name and URL. Existing content created using our music will not be affected.

Credit attribution is optional for content created and published using audio materials from this site. If you have previously credited “DOVA-SYNDROME,” you do not need to change the credit.

Looking Ahead

We will continue improving the service with the goal of making it a more convenient and valuable platform for more creators.

Going forward, we plan to introduce a free login function and gradually add features that make it easier to manage music, such as favorites and listening and download history. We also plan to introduce a paid plan offering convenient features that make the creative process more comfortable, such as ad-free browsing and more efficient searching and downloading. In addition, we will actively pursue collaboration projects with companies and other initiatives to further energize the service.

Please note that listening to, downloading, and using our audio materials will remain free of charge, just as before. We have no plans to charge users for the use of the audio materials themselves as a free BGM site.

We will continue to support and reward composers while improving the service, with the goal of becoming a free BGM platform originating in Japan that can be used by creators around the world. We sincerely appreciate your continued support and patronage.
